Born May 17, 1923, Sister Rose Marie is the second eldest resident of our convent infirmary. She was born at home in Phoenix, Arizona, to Suzanna and Harry Holden, “good and faithful Catholics” who raised to adulthood their family of eight children, three girls and five boys. Sr. Rose Marie attended St. Mary’s elementary school and high school, founded by the Sisters of the Precious Blood. At 17, she entered the Congregation of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet, but soon left as she was” too young” to adapt to religious life. Sister's first job was as a "machine bookkeeper" at First National Bank in downtown Phoenix. She also worked for the “war effort” during World War II, then after nurses training she worked as a nursing assistant in Phoenix. Eventually she served in the Legion of Mary where she later was introduced to the Franciscan Missionary Sisters of Our Lady of Sorrows traveling to Soquel, California to their retreat center. In her mid-40's she entered religious life with the Franciscan Missionary Sisters of Our Lady of Sorrows.
